The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has emphasized the need for collaboration between the Federal Government and real estate developers to address the housing deficit in Nigeria.

Oba Ogunwusi made this appeal during his visit to the Ojaja Residence Park in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, accompanied by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

He highlighted the crucial role that real estate professionals play in mitigating the housing shortage in the country. The monarch urged the Federal Government to increase its support for local manufacturers as a strategic approach to boost the economy.

Expressing concern over the neglect of local industries, he called on Nigeria’s political leaders to set an example by supporting local businesses across all sectors. He stated, “This will create jobs for our large population.”

“We cannot keep lamenting over past mistakes. We acknowledge the housing deficit in our nation, but we must utilize our resources effectively to achieve results. We need to prioritize Nigerian products and focus on domestic production, including our housing requirements.

“Our project here is a self-sufficient city, spanning 100,000 square meters, showcasing what is achievable in Nigeria. Everything you see here is sourced from within the country.”

Oba Ogunwusi emphasized that the official unveiling of Ojaja City aims to demonstrate that with determination, progress is possible. “Many positive developments can occur in our nation if we believe in ourselves. If we trust in our capabilities, we can gradually reduce the housing deficit.”

Regarding the park’s unique features, he noted, “This is an integrated city where residents can find everything they need. We have a five-star hotel, a game center, a children’s park, a shopping mall, recreational areas, schools, and residential estates.”

“Our goal is to create a model that has never been seen in Nigeria. Many people are skeptical about the quality of Nigerian-made products, but we are confident in what we offer. We have thoroughly vetted our suppliers.”

He added that the mall will serve as a platform to promote local products, stating, “This is essential for our economic growth.”

Oba Ogunwusi explained that he invited two prominent Nigerian leaders to bless the project due to their commitment to supporting local products and youth engagement. “We cannot rely solely on the government to address all issues. This is why I invited General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Matthew Kukah, who advocate for peace and youth involvement. Our focus here is on empowering the youth, and I believe Nigeria can become a better place.”

When asked about the number of youths expected to work at the park, he replied, “The numbers are in the thousands. It’s hard to quantify because there are so many.”

He described the transformation of the land, which was previously condemned, stating, “It took us nearly two years to reclaim this land, and we have many young people demonstrating their skills and capabilities.”

“All the products here are locally made, showcasing what can engage our youth, which is my mission as a leader.”

The monarch clarified that the housing initiative is not exclusive to the wealthy, asserting, “We are not motivated by profit. Such a project cannot be driven by money. My goal is to uplift the youth and improve their lives.”

He expressed satisfaction with the progress made, stating, “I have witnessed countless youths rise from nothing to something. That is my purpose.”

“The numbers are vast, but we focus on passion. What can we contribute to our beloved country? We often blame the government, but what are we doing as individuals?”

Oba Ogunwusi concluded by stating, “Those interested in acquiring property should share our vision. We cater to all socioeconomic classes, ensuring inclusivity in our offerings.”
