A new turbine has been added to the supply of electricity via the national grid.
It is the Azura Power’s first turbine was synchronised to the national grid and has started producing electricity for distribution across the country.
Its Deputy-Managing Director, Edu Okeke, said that “this festive period is one of the peak periods for electricity consumption in Nigeria and it’s a source of real pride for Azura that we were able to bring our first turbine into the grid before Christmas day.”
According to the company, Azura project marked a watershed in the history of power in Nigeria, because it is the country’s first large-scale, project-financed, independent power plant; a victory that was made possible via the co-operation from some government agencies.
It was gathered that the plant comprised three Siemens turbines, each of which is capable of producing 153MW.
The first turbine was added to the national grid on 20th December 2017 and would be subjected to tests for five weeks, while second phase would commence at the end of January 2018. The third phase would start by March 2018.
