The Benin Republic and Togo have an outstanding electricity debt of $8.84 million to Nigeria for power consumed in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This information was disclosed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in a report detailing the payments made by both domestic and international bilateral customers, as well as special customers, for invoices issued in the fourth quarter of 2024 by the Market Operator.

The report indicates that the six international bilateral customers receiving electricity from Nigerian generation companies (Gencos) made a total payment of $5.21 million against a cumulative invoice of $14.05 million issued by the Market Operator for services rendered in that quarter, resulting in a remittance performance of 37.08 percent.

The international companies include Paras-SBEE in Benin Republic, which paid $2.65 million; Paras-CEET, also in Benin, which paid $1.64 million; Transcorp-SBEE (Ughelli) in Benin, which paid $1.71 million out of a $3.59 million invoice; Transcorp-SBEE (Afam 3), which paid $0.90 million out of its $1.2 million invoice; and Odukpani-CEET in Togo, which still owes.
