The Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) has reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to establish a strong partnership aimed at preventing engineering failures, particularly building collapses in Nigeria.
During a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, COREN President Prof. Sadiq Abubakar led a delegation to discuss the review of their 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu.
Abubakar emphasized the importance of updating the MoU to align with current circumstances, including the 2018 amendment of COREN’s Act, Nigeria’s commitment to international agreements, and recent incidents of building collapses and infrastructure failures.
He underscored COREN’s initiatives to enforce engineering standards and ensure accountability for those responsible.
ICPC Chairman Aliyu expressed his support for the partnership, highlighting the vital role of engineering in the nation’s growth and development. He stressed the importance of addressing engineering failures while promoting accountability and integrity.
Aliyu also urged COREN to take action against cybercrimes in the ICT sector and announced that COREN would participate in the evaluation of public projects to ensure compliance with established standards.
