The Edo Government has claimed that the state had become the latest power generation hub that would prop up the power sector in Nigeria.
This intimation was made by the Chairman, Edo State Strategic Planning Team, Julius Ihonvbere, during a chat with journalists in Benin City.
He said that the Azura-Edo power project and massive advent of solar power operators in the Edo North axis are the projects that would make the state a cynosure in the area of power.
According to him, the policies being rolled out by the present state government, have created enabling environment for business operations, thereby reducing the turn-around time for investment opportunities in the state.
He said that the government had given topmost priorities to key and strategic areas such as energy, information and communication technologies (ICTs), manufacturing, oil and Gas, among others.
In his words, “In terms of productive capacity, Edo is making a lot of progress. We have companies here that are working on power. We have not just Azura-Edo Power and Ossiomo Investment, but also Siemens. There’s is a huge plant for solar energy that will serve Edo State.
“We have signed a power purchase agreement to buy electricity that will service all government ministries and parastatals, so that productivity can increase,” he added.
