The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred 753 housing units associated with a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The commission discovered these properties, located on Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09 in Lokogoma District, Abuja, following intelligence reports. The site spans 150,500 square meters and includes 753 duplexes and additional apartments. This transfer was made possible by a final forfeiture order issued by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja on December 2 of last year.

During the property handover, EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to transparent asset recovery and disposal processes.

He stated that these actions aim to “show Nigerians that any proceeds from crime recovered during our operations will be handled transparently, ensuring that looted assets are not misappropriated again.”

In a statement from the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede emphasized, “It is crucial for us to convey to Nigerians that the fight against corruption is effective and can yield real results. A key element driving this effort is ensuring that those who have misappropriated our resources do not benefit from their crimes

“One of the key aspects of our work is that we prevent criminals from benefiting from their illegal activities,” stated the EFCC chairman.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strong position on combating corruption. The transfer of the property, he noted, demonstrates the government’s commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes, as well as other forms of corruption.

The handover occurred during a brief ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, acknowledged the EFCC’s ongoing dedication to asset recovery and anti-corruption efforts.

He described the handover as a “significant milestone in our collective efforts to ensure that recovered assets are utilized productively for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
