Governor. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has promised  to assist the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to tackle persistent power outage in the state.

Tambuwal meets with the KAEDCO officials in a closed door meeting at the Government House in Sokoto on Wednesday.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Alhaji Aliyu Dandin-Mahe, Commissioner for Energy Development, said that the governor expressed concern over the erratic power supply in the state.

He explained that the governor was briefed by the company officials on their challenges, which included inadequate facilities and underpayment of monthly bills by customers.

“Gov. Tambuwal assured them that he will do everything humanly possible to rectify the problems.

“He equally challenged the company to do the needful as the government has been contributing its quota to the company’s activities over the years.

“90 per cent of transformers currently in use were provided by the state government, with the support of local governments and other individuals.

“This is in addition to routine reactivation and replacement of fallen electrical poles and cross arms.”

The Commissioner disclosed that the governor also advised the company to provide their customers with prepaid metres, as a way out of low payments for electricity.

Also, Commercial Manager KAEDCO Sokoto office, Hajiya Mashida Rabo, said they were at the Government House at the instance of Tambuwal over the power outage in the state.

She attributed the current situation to inability of customers to constantly settle energy charged to enable the company serve them better.

Rabo noted that energy worth N700 million is being purchased by the company monthly from the National Grid but only N200 million was been realised at the end of every month.

She added that their doors would remain open to receive complaints from consumers.
