Former Deputy Governor of Benue, Chief Steven Lawani, has commended the Federal Government on road rehabilitation in Otukpo in the state.
Lawani, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Benue South, gave the commendation in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
He, however, solicited for potable water and constant electricity supply, adding that Otupko represents the political, economy, cultural and social hub of Idoma nation.
According to Lawani, in spite the strategic position of Otukpo, it also lacks other infrastructure such as potable water and adequate electricity supply.
“We have no potable water in this place for many years,“ he said.
He said that due to the deplorable nature of roads in Otupko, it had become difficult for motorists to easy passage through the town.
“We appreciate what the Federal Government has started doing regarding this road. It is something that state government could have handled and reclaims the money from Federal Government.
“We thank God that this is happening due to persistence and recommendation of Chief Audu Ogheh, who brought his colleague, Mr Babatunde Fashola to inspect the rehabilitation of this road,’’ he said.
Another APC chieftain in Otupko, Mr Sam Odey, described the town as a gateway between South-East and the North of the country and “a critical economic hub that connects the South-East to the North.
“We very grateful that the president has approved the construction of the remaining stretch of the road that leads to Osugbudu to Oweto bridge to Loko, all of which is happening in short time.
“It is so unfortunate that we have people in very sensitive position but they do not attend to this issue, this government is sensitive to the plight of our people,“ he said.
