A revitalized sense of optimism emerges for travelers and inhabitants along the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway, as the Federal Government has re-awarded the long-stalled reconstruction of this vital thoroughfare to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited.
This significant development was confirmed by Hon. Akin Alabi, the esteemed Member of the House of Representatives representing the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, in a statement provided to the media on Wednesday.
Alabi revealed that this new contract comes on the heels of the termination of the prior agreement with Kopek Construction Company due to their perceived unsatisfactory advancement on the project.
“The Federal Government has now entrusted the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway to CBC Global, a distinguished multinational construction firm renowned for its robust track record in delivering major infrastructure undertakings in Nigeria and across the African continent,” Alabi announced.
As articulated by the lawmaker, the Federal Government perceives the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa corridor as a cohesive, singular project rather than one fragmented by state or constituency lines. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the section from Iwo Road to Asejire—situated within his constituency—remains a notable source of distress for both residents and motorists alike.
Alabi further disclosed that CBC Global is set to implement concrete pavement technology, an innovative construction methodology anticipated to render the new road enduring for up to 50 years without significant rehabilitation.
“Work is anticipated to commence from the Osun State entrance of the expressway. However, I am actively engaged in discussions with the contractor to undertake urgent repairs on the most degraded segments within Egbeda and Ona Ara, in order to provide immediate respite for road users. This effort will initiate as soon as possible,” stated the lawmaker.
The federal representative expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda policy for prioritizing this project and showcasing a renewed commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s federal infrastructure network.
He reassured his constituents that he will persist in closely monitoring the project and supplying regular updates as progress unfolds.
“I sincerely thank everyone for their forbearance and understanding throughout this journey. Please rest assured of my utmost respect and unwavering commitment to ensuring that Egbeda and Ona Ara reap the full benefits of the Federal Government’s infrastructure revitalization initiative,” Alabi concluded.
Akinola Adekunle Alabi is a prominent Nigerian politician and entrepreneur, serving as a two-term representative for the Egbeda Federal Constituency since 2019.
