Management of a popular hotel, Jaspand Limited in Orile-Agege area of Lagos State, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the operations of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).
In the petition, the management of the hotel is asking the electricity distribution company to pay them the sum of N10 million as general damages due to the loss they have incurred as a result of illegal disconnection.
According to them, they decided to involve the Economic and the Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-fraud agencies, so that they could conduct thorough investigation into the activities of the electricity company.
The petition, which was signed by the hotel’s lawyer, Terry Badmos Adeniji & Co and copied to EFCC, Anti-Fraud Unit, Alagbon, Consumer Protection Unit, Alausa, Ikeja, further demanded “an immediate reconnection of the hotel’s electricity; immediate release of a prepaid meter and immediate withdrawal of a ghost bill of N700, 000 fraudulently manufactured to extort our client and turn him into a cash cow.”
According to the petition titled, “Petition Against Ikeja Electricity Company, Orile-Agege Business Unit: A Case of Illegal Disconnection, Extortion and Incessant Harassment”, Jaspand Hotel Limited has been in operation since about five years ago and has been a credible and responsible customer of IKEDC, promptly settling any estimated bill brought to them.
The petition further reads, “Surprisingly, instead of commending our client for being responsible, the General Manager of Ikeja Electricity, Orile-Agege Business Unit, surreptitiously manufactured another bill out of the blue in respect of the same hotel building but on another name. Please note that there is no any existing record of power usage even before the hotel was erected.”
