The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, announced the closure of a section of FESTAC link bridge due to the report given by the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure that the portion of the bridge might be in a precarious state.
Making the announcement of the closure, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), an agency of Lagos State Government, said that the bridge which was burnt over a week ago needed to be closed as a proactive measures to save the lives of motorists, pedestrians and other road users along Amuwo Odofin- FESTAC axis where the bridge is located.
According to the General Manager of LASTMA, Olawale Musa, the closure of a section of the bridge for repairs would not lead to heavy traffic gridlock and hardship in the axis as adequate arrangement had been made to minimize traffic jam to the barest minimum.
According to Musa, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority wishes to inform motorists inward and outward of FESTAC Town using the link bridge that they would now be restricted to one section of the bridge for safety and easy movement of vehicles.
“We like to assure motorists and residents that more men and materials have been deployed to the axis. We urge residents of the area, especially motorist and commuters to exercise patience and cooperate with the traffic officials for traffic to flow within the period,” Musa said.
