The Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) for the establishment of a mini-power substation on its campus.

Samuel Sogunro, the institution’s rector, said this at the institution’s 26th convocation news conference, bon Thursday, in Lagos.

Sogunro said the MoU was entered into to tackle the problem of power outage in the institution.

He said the supply would be beneficial to the Ikorodu community as the institution was unlikely to consume all that would be generated.

In his words, “We cannot deny the fact that as an institution, regular supply of electricity is germane to the efficient running of our academic and administrative activities.

“This could also form part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to our host community,” he said.

Sogunro said that for the first time, the institution was able to access the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for fabrication of equipment.

He, however, noted that some equipment in the School of Engineering were fabricated in 2017.

The rector listed the fabricated equipment to include: Palm Oil Pressing Plant, Brake Wear Sensor on Automobile (Tricycle), Multi-Purpose Juice Extractor, Multi-purpose Threshing Shelling and Cleaning Machine.
