The Lagos State Government has unveiled approximately 176 unlawful estate constructions situated in the Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe regions of the state, and has issued the proprietors a 21-day ultimatum to secure their layout approvals.
The government asserted that these estates were classified as unlawful due to the proprietors’ neglect in acquiring layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, as outlined in a document released by the Ministry on Monday.
Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, Oluwole Sotire, expressed that these unlawful estates undermined the principles of sustainable development and the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda set forth by the government by functioning without sanctioned layouts.
Among the condemned unlawful estates are Adron Homes in Elerangbe; Aina Gold Estate located in Okun-Folu; Diamond Estate in Eputu; Prime Water View Garden at Ikate Elegushi; and Royal View Estate in Ikota, to name a few. In light of this, the government has mandated the owners of these estates to submit the requisite documents to his office in the Ministry of Planning and Urban Development, located in the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, to facilitate their layout approvals.
Sotire articulated that this initiative is a standard function of the Ministry, in accordance with its authority to oversee the development of both public and private estates within Lagos State by processing and approving layouts to nurture a functional, structured, orderly, and resilient smart city, as envisioned in the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government.
Furthermore, Sotire highlighted the crucial necessity for all developers and real estate professionals to register with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA), which is tasked with governing, coordinating, and supervising real estate practitioners within the sector.
