The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has directed electricity consumers to use the NERC contact center and forum offices to resolve complaints.
At a public meeting of NERC and the grievance redressal forum in Calabar, Cross River State, the NERC Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Aisha Mahmud, said NERC was committed to improving the satisfaction of the companies’ customers of electrical distribution (Disco).
“We are here in Calabar to solve problems like we have done in some parts of the country and it has been a great success. Complaints must be solved locally and NERC will ensure that this is done, except for some technical problems that require investigations by the DISCO,” the regulator said in a statement to the power sector.
The Cross River State Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Eka Williams, commended NERC for organizing the event during which issues were promptly resolved by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
“What NERC has done today is commendable and we must commend them for taking proactive steps, holding a public meeting to engage electricity consumers in Calabar on their rights and obligations,” Eka said.
The member representing
akassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, the statement said, recalled how NERC used to settle his overcharging complaint while Disco fixed his bill and gave him a discount.
“Therefore, I want to use this platform to encourage you as voters and electricity consumers in Calabar to visit the NERC forum office in Calabar and lodge your complaints whenever you feel cheated or subjugated by Port Harcourt Disco .
