Parts of Nigeria are plunged into darkness following another collapse of the national grid on Wednesday, marking the second incident this year.

Data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) indicates that the collapse occurred at approximately 11:30 am.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet revealed the cause of this grid failure.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident on its X platform stating, “We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today (Wednesday), resulting in power outages across our service areas.

“While we have begun the gradual restoration of power supply, please rest assured that we are collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as possible.”

In a similar vein, a well-known Nigeria National Grid account on X posted on Wednesday, stating, “There was a ‘GRID DISTURBANCE’ before noon today (Wednesday), leading to outages in various parts of the country.”
