It is not a mere rhetoric that Nigeria is a country that is blessed with plethora of youths that are talented with excellent innovative skills.

One of them is a 32-year-old Augustine Otuokwa Ogar, who has just constructed 200 watts mini-hydroelectric power plant that generated electricity for Mgbaneshuo village and the entire Wula community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

It was gathered that Ogar constructed the plant with locally selected materials and equipment and converted the kinetic energy of a flowing stream water into electric energy that is now being used by the villagers and the nearby villagers as a source of power supply.

The power is generated on a small-scale with installation of a naturally flowing stream water as a driving force to turn and revolve its turbine.

In the words of Oga, “When the turbine spins, the electro-magnetic field converts the mechanical energy into electric energy. The flow rate of the stream water is low, because it is not a dam or waterfall. This is a small stream with low flowing water, yet I was able to convert it to bring pressure and fall like a dam.”

According to him, he needs the support of government and other well-meaning Nigerians to help him develop the power on a large scale.
