Residents in Faqua quarters, Sabo Ugwa and close areas in Katsina State have been thrown into darkness for the past eight months.
It was gathered that the absence of electricity supply that they have suffered for so long was caused by the explosion of the transformer serving the entire axis and nothing has been done to help the situation.
In an effort to ensure that the transformer was brought back to shape, the residents set up a lobby committee led by one Lawan Mogaji to liaise Kano Electricity Distribution (KEDCO). However, findings have shown that, as of the time of filing this report, KEDCO was yet to respond.
According to Magaji, the blackout had forced some residents, whose business depended on power, to relocate from the areas.
He noted that the outage had made the communities vulnerable to criminal activities in the late hour of the night.
According to him, “We have made several requests to KEDCO on our plight, but without success. Right now, commercial activities, especially those that depend on regular power supply, are not flourishing again.
“Some of our people have secured business premises in other parts of Katsina with regular power supply to continue with their business,” he added.
The residents also complained that KEDCO officials had, on December 20,2017, removed the damaged transformer from its site without informing them about where they took it to.
