Water Transportation: LASWA inaugurates eight boats, GM lauds Sanwo-Olu

Mr Damilola Emmanuel, General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has lauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the development of the water transportation in the state.

Emmanuel gave the commendation in an interview with  newsmen in Lagos .

He said that the inauguration of eight locally-made boats with the state-of-the-art- technology for the use of by the Lagos Ferry Service (LAGFERRY) by Sanwoolu on Tuesday was particularly commendable.

Sanwo-Olu had launched the boats as part of his administration’s strategy to ease traffic on the roads.

The LASWA boss, who assured commuters of safety and comfort with the new boats, said that the boats would complement efforts of the private sector on waterways.

“This is just to complement private operators on waterways.

“There must be collaboration between the government and the private sector to take water transportation to a greater height in the state and this is what the government had done.

“It is good that the government complements the efforts of the private players. Safety standards are assured as well as more convenient services for commuters,” he said.

According to him, the boats are safer and more convenient and they will help to move more people on the state’s waterways.

NAN reports that during the inauguration, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that the eight ferries were provided by the state government to complement the already existing six being operated by the LAGFERRY.

He said that the provision of ferries was part of the efforts of his administration toward delivering an effective and integrated intermodal transportation system in the state.

The governor added that the provision of ferries was a key component of the state’s Traffic Management and Transportation pillar of his T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

NAN reports that each of the new boats has the capacity to ferry between 40 and 60 passengers during each trip

The boats will commute passengers on routes such as Ikorodu, Ebute Ero, CMS, Badore and Ikoyi.

The new boats are furnushed with comfortable seats and equipped with facilities like in-built wifi system, on board entertainment system, charging points and are tracked real time to ensure safety of boats and passengers.
